Firefighters in Pueblo suspect an early morning house fire on the east side was started by a transient person who had taken shelter inside. No one lived in the home in the 800 block of E. 5th Street, the utilities were shut off, and temperatures overnight were very cold.
Several searches of the home turned up empty. Nevertheless, Cpt. Robert Hudgens says his firefighters treat every fire as if someone were inside.
"Anytime you go into a house, you don't know if it's vacant, you don't know if there's somebody in there," Hudgens said.
The fire began sometime round 7:15 a.m. Friday. Within minutes, Hudgens and his crews were able to douse the flames and by 8:30 were packing up to leave.
